内容概况：In this lecture I basically introduce the common and important
ingredients that are used in a wide range of TE/TR technologies that are
currently used in medical research and at the end of the lecture I give an example of autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) applications in orthopaedics and musculo-skeletal diseases.

报告2 题目: Proteglycan Families.
内容概况：This lecture would cover the various genetic sub-families of
proteoglycans that we find in mammalian tissues. They are; (a) extracellular matrix proteoglycans; there are three sub-populations of these (i) the large aggregating proteoglycans; e.g.aggrecan, versican etc., (ii) the large non-aggregating proteoglycans; e.g.perlecan and (iii) the small leucine-rich proteoglycans (SLRPs); e.g.decorin, biglycan, lumican etc.; (b) cell surface proteoglycans; e.g. the syndecans and glypicans; (c) intracellular proteoglycans; e.g. SerGlycin which is found in Mast cells. In this lecture I basically cover the different subsets of proteoglycans as described above and give some examples of where they are found and what are their functions in different tissues and organs of the body.

报告3 题目: Cartilage biochemistry in health and disease.
内容概况：This lecture covers the main macromolecules found in cartilage (i.e. the proteoglycans and collagens) and the importance of bound water to the physiological function of cartilage. I then go into bits about how cartilage breaks down in degenerative joint diseases with the aggrecanases (ADAMTS’s) on aggrecan and MMPs on collagen etc.

报告4 题目：Lecture 4 (really a Tutorial).
内容概况：What I do here is give all the students (or small groups of students) a relative small recent paper for them to read (in the lecture) which takes about 15-20 minutes and then I summarise what I think are important points to be seen in this particular paper (for them to understand the focus of the paper) and then I give them a brief “unofficial”examination to see if they can answer some questions to show that they have understood the important points in the paper. This latter Lecture/Tutorial will be more to help us (the Teachers) find out if
the Xi’an students can understand the contents and scientific achievements described in the paper (written in English medical literature) relating to TE/TR technologies and how this has been used in one medical application. This type of Tutorial/Lecture is something that I give to our Final year Bioscience students who are enrolled in a new module on TE/TR for which I am the module coordinator. All the students seemed to like this component of the course last year when I gave
it for the first time.
